Our immune system is designed to defend us from foreign attacks, such as viruses and bacteria. Immunotherapy for cancer takes advantage of the immune system to kill cancer cells by directing immune cells to recognize cancer cells by specific proteins on their surface.
This session will review the progress that has been made with immunotherapy to treat Prostate Cancer as well as future directions for therapy and research.
Dr. Fong will consider how immunotherapy maybe applied at all levels and stages of prostate cancer from active surveillance to advanced disease. And he will discuss the challenges of working with a ‘cold’ rather than ‘hot’ tumor.
