Renal Medullary Carcinoma (RMC) is an insidious cancer that effects all ages from as young as 5. Around 80% of cases are associated with sickle cell trait, where the sickle cells block paths to the kidney causing inflammation that can later trigger cancer. Hispanic and African ethnicity are particualalry vulnerable. Dehydration is often a factor making many young athletes susceptible.
