Wayne McKenzie!

Meet Wayne McKenzie, a successful milliner in NYC until he lost his sight. Wayne will speak about navigating the city, and staying creative while visually impaired.
Wayne Mckenzie was raised in Brooklyn, NY to Guyanese parents. Trained as an accountant, but growing up with a family of seamstresses and bakers, Wayne disovered the joy of working with is hands. Realizing that numbers were not for him, he eventually found his calling in hat making and opened a store on Brooklyn. His clientele included Jada Pinkett Smith, Ben Vereen, and Mary Wilson among others. Wane’s world shifted when he lost his sight, but his creative fire never dimmed, it simply found a new outlet. At the visions center of New York, he began exploring the art of knitting and weaning, as well as navigating New York city as a visually impaired person. Today he pours his imagination into handwoven hats, throw pillows, vests, and handbags. He lives in NYC with his wife, where they raised 3 children.
