“You have CANCER! “ – that’s what the doctor said, but you heard, “Life is over”.
You now face scans, tests, blood draws, treatment decisions, scheduling issues, treatment itself – and the medical team speaks a foreign language with no translator
Your family is almost as stunned as you are; colleagues are speechless and embarrassed; friends now don’t have time for you … you make them afraid.
Sleeping emotions are now awake and screaming for attention. You wake up at 3am and sit on the edge of the bed, thinking thoughts you had never considered. The anxiety you feel is draining energy; the worry is eating you up.
You have never felt so alone- no one to talk to about what you are thinking and feeling. Your partner wants to support and help any way they can, but they can’t sympathize – only empathize, and they lack understanding to encourage discussion.
Only someone that has experienced this can understand. Only someone that has experienced this can answer the questions you have. Being able to talk to someone that has been there can be a blessing.
How does AnCan know?
We’ve been where you are, starting with your moderator Rich Jackson. The ability to talk to someone that understood helped him and many like him; AnCan wants to offer that help to you.
AnCan offers a monthly support call, Speaking Freely, for men that have cancer, any cancer. This call is only for men. No raised eyebrows, no judgement, no guilt. We support each other in a safe, comfortable space suitable for man-talk, helping ourselves by Speaking Freely!
