Dr. Nizar Tannir
Dr. Nazir Tannir is the Ransom Horne, Jr. Professor for Cancer Research in Genitourinary Medical Oncology, as well as Professor of GU Medical Oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.
Dr. Tannir qualified at the American University of Beirut in Lebanon and first came to MDA in 1981 for an oncology fellowship. He has continuously practiced in the USA since then, for the past 25 years in genitourinary oncology at MDA. His particular interest is renal, and that’s how Dr. Nazir came to AnCan through his dedication to addressing renal medullary carcinoma. He has been recognized for his humanitarian work by the Kidney Cancer Association.
Dr. T has authored more than 320 publications and was voted Teacher of The Year six times by the UT MD Anderson Cancer Center Hematology-Oncology fellows. If the same award was offered for patient relations, Dr. Nazir would have been a repeat winner too – his patients love him! His avuncular joviality shines through with stories regaled from across the globe lightening the most serious diagnoses.
