Lou, a retired reading specialist, was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in May 2013, following double pneumonia. An elevated blood protein level led to her diagnosis and a referral for a stem cell transplant at the University of Kansas Cancer Center.

Over twelve years, Lou has undergone numerous myeloma treatments, including a Stem Cell Transplant, Kyprolis, Pomalyst, Darzalex, and advanced CAR-T therapies (ABECMA, Allo CAR-T, GPRC5D CAR-T), along with Iberdomide and Teclistamab. She’s participated in five clinical trials.

Lou is highly active in her local Kansas City Myeloma Support Group. She and her husband, David, are also Myeloma Coaches for Healthtree, offering support and guidance to other patients. With two daughters and five grandchildren, they’ve written a book about their myeloma journey, hoping for a fall 2025 publication.
