DISCLAIMER: AnCan does not endorse Superpower or any of its products. All patients should discuss with their healthcare provider before using any of their products or any of the tests or advice in the article.
In another of the seemingly endless organizations offering premium health services, Superpower, founded in 2023, provides a fairly straightforward overview of the myriad tests and biomarkers available to Prostate Cancer patients (A Clear Guide to PCa Biomarkers). Seasoned AnCaners may find little new in here, especially those that attend or review many of the recent seminars/webcasts, but newcomers or those needing a refresher may find it helpful for further research or equipping you to be your own best advocate. The article hits many of the main tests with which we are all familiar, as well as some of the urine biomarkers (PCA3, Select MDx, ExoDX), without specifically endorsing any of them. It does touch on MRIs, but only multi-parametric, not bi-parametric MRIs, nor does it get into the trans-rectal versus trans-perineal debate. Be forewarned, there is information with which not everyone will agree (shocking, I know), but it is still a useful, albeit somewhat rudimentary tool.

Editor’s Pick: Hiding in plain sight, a new tumor docs failed to mention. (bn)
Topics Discussed
Upcoming AnCan group; newly diagnosed with a spot on his spine — consider zapping both prostate and tumor; what’s happening with Medicare and telehealth?; a Pluvicto update after his first treatment; after focal therapy, docs kept quiet about a new tumor, and it may now be escaping the prostate; lots of metastasis, PSA in the thousands, but he got doublet therapy, not triplet; a 0.04 PSA rise isn’t worrisome; he’s offered Clomid to raise testosterone (why not just take testosterone?); massive sweating spells that far exceed hot flashes; prior mastectomy complicates planned radiation for sore nipples; thanks to John Maxwell for giving AnCan the proceeds of his poetry collection during September; great experience from Dr. Guercio in Rochester; ready to shift his care to a top NYC hospital.

All net proceeds from the sale of my book during September 2025 will be donated to ANCAN.
I’m at the start of my ADT journey. I have been on Orgovyx for 6 months. I plan to stay on for the full 24 months. When I do stop taking Orgovyx how quickly does my testosterone return?
John M — Guys on Orgovyx will recover T levels faster than those on Lupron/Eligard, etc. However, everyone is different and how fast your T levels recover will depend on your baseline T, how old you are, and how long you’ve been on Orgovyx.
AnCan – rick sent: 4:01 PM
John M …. the rule of thumb is twice the length of time you were on. It depends on age…. With orgo, it could well be shorter. It was shorter for me on Lupron – 9 mo. Should say the rule of thumb used to be…..

I had a Karate Sensei that swore by mustard for cramp relief. Like the kind of mustard packets you get at a fast food joint. He recommended sucking one down when students got a cramp. He kept them in the Dojo. I don’t know if it was just the power of suggestion but it seemed to work.

Topics Discussed
He’s responding to ADT, but we keep wondering about the “neuroendocrine hyperplasia” found in his lung; salvage radiation is recommended, but mom’s bad radiation experience leaves him fearful; even with cribriform, Gleason 4+3 puts him in the low/intermediate group; the word is “debulking” for giving prostate radiation after de novo metastasis; low-PSA-producer sees a doubling in 3 months, but it’s from 0.016 to 0.032 — is that worrisome?; with new oligomets, he wonders if he should get chemo now and be done with it; minimal cancer found in his blood test and negative PSMA — he’s celebrating; abi patient gets facial swelling — is the physician assistant handling it properly, and why wasn’t he warned against stopping prednisone too quickly?; swimming through bureaucratic murk to see a radonc.

PROSTOX, a genetic test designed to help prostate cancer patients minimize the risk of radiation toxicity, is available to patients in the USA, with the exception of New York State residents.

Orgovyx is the pill. versus Lupron
AnCan – rick · 7:00 PM
In no circumstances a 6-mo DEPOT.
Jon McPhe · 7:03 PM
Anyone got a short version of why Orgovyx and not Lupron? I ,ay have to make a choice tomorrow.
Steve Roux, North Michigan · 7:04 PM
I did not tolerate Lupron well at all.
Steve Roux, North Michigan · 7:05 PM
I saw a GU Oncologist who put me on Orgovyx which is a pill and easy to take. Very much less side effects.
Julian – Houston · 7:05 PM
I was on Lupron then got switched over to Orgovyx and Nubeqa.
Steve Roux, North Michigan · 7:07 PM
Gerry / Cynthia – if you are on medicare, the new max out-of-pocket for drugs is reduced now to only 2,500.00 per year. That makes Orgovyx very affordable.
RJ Smith (Seattle) · 7:07 PM
Orgovyx you can stop taking the daily pills, and testosterone will come back much quicker. Multi-month Lupron will keep on going, and doesn’t stop completely on the last day of the month.
AnCan – rick · 7:12 PM
We call that debulking the primary
Jeff Marchi – San Francisco · 7:29 PM
I have been on Lupron for 7 years and Orgovyx for 2 years. After 5 months of Orgovyx the side effects are identical to Lupron
Jeff Marchi – San Francisco · 7:31 PM
Some people don’t produce PSMA, so the scan can’t find anything.
Jeff Marchi – San Francisco · 7:46 PM
First 5 months hot flashes stopped, since then as bad as Lupron 10+ a day most days
